This spring, AIA Japan welcomed members and guests to a series of thought-provoking lectures examining the relationship between architecture, nature, and the evolving urban environment.
In April, architect and scholar Balázs Bognár presented Human Nature, exploring the connections between the built environment and the natural world. Hosted at Cosentino Japan, the evening combined thoughtful discussion with the opportunity for members to reconnect and exchange ideas in an informal setting.
In May, AIA Japan welcomed renowned Bangladeshi architect Rafiq Azam for his lecture Modernism Renewed from the South. Drawing on his work in Bangladesh, Azam shared a deeply considered approach to architecture and urban regeneration, demonstrating how buildings and public spaces can foster stronger relationships between communities, culture, and nature.
Both events attracted audiences in person and online, reflecting AIA Japan's ongoing commitment to bringing internationally recognised voices to its members and fostering conversations around architecture's role in shaping more resilient, connected, and meaningful places.
AIA Japan was also honored to collaborate with Kengo Kuma & Associates to host a special lecture, “Back to Nature”, presented by Kengo Kuma at the historic Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan, a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece, and a fitting setting for this dialogue between architecture and nature. The talk delved into Kuma’s philosophy of reconnecting design with the natural world.
