We held our AIA International Conference from September 29th to October 3rd, hosted in London by AIA UK and in collaboration with AIA Continental Europe. Each day centred on explorations of different areas of London.

AIA Middle East and AIA International invite you to join us for our 2021 Annual Conference, to be held in the UAE during the Dubai World Expo on November 11 - 14.
AIA International was a co-sponsor for the "Architecture: A Lasting Impact" conference in Sri Lanka on August 5-6, 2023. The event was organized by the RIBA Members: Sri Lanka, headed by Nela de Zoysa, Hon. FAIA. Nela de Zoysa is AIA International's Country Representative to Sri Lanka and formerly served on the AIA Strategic Council.
As the Chapter is in the process of applying for NGO status, we have not been able to organize any events under the AIA Shanghai name. Here are just some of the exciting events which took place this autumn…
A multifaceted event organized by AIA International this July celebrated Japan’s leading role in architectural and urban renewal, and international collaboration. The five days in central Tokyo and Osaka treated attendees and delegates from AIA and ASSC (Architectural Society of Shanghai China) to talks by esteemed guest speakers and a landmark signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two associations. In addition, a variety of guided walking tours showcased Tokyo and Osaka.
The AIA International Design Awards recognize best practices, innovative thinking, and design excellence of AIA members’ projects worldwide. Entries will be judged on how successfully the design addresses individual project program requirements, the successful integration of the solution within its context, and its worthiness for an award in design excellence. Every year has featured a specially assembled jury of three internationally renowned architects and designers to preside over the awards.
AIA International is the broadest geographical component of the American Institute of Architects. The AIA International Design Awards recognize best practices, innovative thinking, and design excellence of AIA members’ projects worldwide. All members of AIA International are eligible to submit entries for projects located anywhere in the world. Every year has featured a specially assembled jury of three internationally renowned architects and designers to preside over the awards.
The AIA International Design Awards Program aims to share the importance of architecture and of the role of architects to design for people and planet, towards a future of health, inclusivity, and stewardship. Entries will be judged on how successfully the design addresses individual project program requirements, the successful integration of the solution within its context, and its worthiness for an award in design excellence. US licensed architects, benefitting from NCARB’s Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) with other national licensing bodies, have long been able to pursue reciprocal licensure in Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, and vice versa. The United Kingdom has been added to the list after a similar agreement with the ARB was finalized, enabling US or UK licensed architects to explore professional practice opportunities across the Atlantic.
Arguably, this year’s Biennale is the most political in many years. Climate change, social justice, housing, equity and inclusion, and the diaspora in many different versions are featured not only in the two main exhibitions curated by Ghanaian Scottish architect and educator, Lesley Lokko, but also in many of the national pavilions.
