Event Description

This talk looks towards the future of Mexican architecture, balancing its design, local culture and natural diversity in an era of disruptive change. Two avant-garde architects present their iconic projects in the context of challenging times.

Javier Sordo Madaleno explains the creative process he has developed to design through a clear line of thought that is reflected in different formal results. He shares proposals for a more inclusive city with an approach that triggers the urban regeneration of a whole area and strategies to enhance life in the city. His lecture reflects on some projects of the firm Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos (with more than 80 years of experience) going through different typologies and scales. In addition, it seeks to share architectural tactics that advocate the value of the design process, research and the way we experience space.

Committed to the AIA 2030 Challenge, L. Benjamín Romano completed the Torre Reforma Highrise building in 2016, achieving a 25.4% reduction in Energy Consumption. Today they are aiming for a Net-Zero Energy Airport terminal in Puerto Vallarta. He will explain how the proper understanding of flow throughout the building, as well as its interaction with the Architectural Parti was key to achieve the reduction in energy consumption.
