Building a Culture of Description presents the recent applied research and design work of Somatic Collaborative through a series of projects in multiple contexts —including Mexico City, Monterrey, Quito and Sao Paulo. The talk highlights the role of description in architecture, arguing for the importance of urban analysis and the act of design to be simultaneous yet not synonymous. Narrated through projects across multiple scales that sit at the confluence of architecture, urbanism and infrastructure, description at the scale of the territory informs the design of specific architectural types, which in turn transform the territory around them.
