AIA Intl Brazil - The case of Florianópolis Airport Passenger Terminal

Event Description

This presentation will show the process of the design and construction of the Florianópolis Airport Passenger Terminal, starting from the event of an International Competition in 2004. From that date, Biselli Katchborian designed two different solutions, as in this period the firm was hired by two different clients, initially the National Agency INFRAERO and finally Zurich Airports which ultimately built the terminal. Mario will explain the architectural solutions behind the AsBEA - Saint Gobain Sustainable Habitat award-winning project.

Arch. Mario Biselli, PhD

Born in São Paulo - Brazil in 1961, graduated in Architecture and Urbanism in 1985 from Universidade Mackenzie. In 2000, received a Master degree in Architecture and Urbanism, in 2014 received a PhD degree at the same institution. He started his teaching career in Architecture Design at Faculdade de Belas Artes of São Paulo in 1992 and at Universidade Mackenzie in 1999, believing that the architecture activity is always connected to academic reflection.

With an architecture that searches the comprehension and responds to the Brazilian economic and cultural transformations, Mario Biselli has been designing within all scales and themes, from innumerous houses, public, private, residential and commercial buildings, airports, office buildings, shopping centers, schools, sports facilities to urban scale projects, with private clients or through architecture competitions.

Moderator: Miriam Addor is an Architect graduated from FAUUSP -1988 , Master in Civil Engineering from POLI-USP: 2012-2015 – focus on BIM (Building Information Modeling) . She is a certified professional in VDC-Virtual Design Construction through Stanford University – CA (2013-2014) and Carnegie Mellon University – PA (2008). She was President of AsBEA (2015-2017) Brazilian Association of Architectural Firms; Vice President of AsBEA (2012-2015, 2017-2019 and 2021-2023); member of the Deliberative Council of AsBEA-SP (2019-2021 and 2021-2023); AsBEA BIM Team coordinator (2008-2015) and current member (2016-2022). Counselor at CAUSP (Architectural and Urbanism Council of Sao Paulo State) (2018-2020) where she coordinated the BIM Committee and The Acquisition of Own CAU Headquarters committee. She currently teaches in the Post-Graduation course - Architecture, City and Real Estate Development at Mackenzie Presbyterian University, teaching Project Management and Coordination focus on BIM. She also teaches Continuing Education at PUCRS teaching the Scope of Work and Contracting in BIM in the Building Information Modeling Course, . She has been a Principal Director of Addor and Associates since 1995, focusing on BIM Coordination, Project Compatibility and Masonry/ Drywall Shop drawing Design, which received the award for best BIM designer in 2017 by SidusconSP, in addition to other awards for best designer focused on coordination and compatibility of design and construction.

Moderator: Born in Curitiba, Brazil, Gustavo Ribeiro obtained his Architecture and Urban Design bachelor degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais State – UFMG in 1992. He founded Sito Arquitetura in 1994, after winning the "National Competition for the Usiminas Cultural Center at Ipatinga, MG Brazil”, from which a book was later published in 1996. This significant prize created an excellent opportunity for him to achieve a rich experience at an early career stage, leading to 24 years of generalist practice.

He has won many other noticeable prizes throughout his career, namely Milton Campos Square, Betim MG; Belo Horizonte Centennial Landmark; COHAB headquarters, Belo Horizonte, MG; Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora Community Center.

At Sito Arquitetura he is the head of design for projects of various scales and typologies and has been diligently working on Single Family, Multi Family, Housing, Commercial, Hospitality, Retail, Mixed-use and Urban Development projects in Brazil and Africa.

He is currently a board member of CAU/MG for the 2021-2023 term, having also served the 2018-2020 term; Board member of AsBEA MG, serving as Director from 2010 to 2018; BIM committee member of AsBEA, conducting the BIM Workgroup from 2015 to 2016; In 1999 he took a graduate specialization course in Real Estate Development at FUMEC University in Belo Horizonte Minas Gerais Brazil, increasing his knowledge in this area. Since then, he has started a real estate development initiative, researching, planning and delivering projects. He truly believes that an insightful architect vision in this industry can greatly improve the way people relate to their environment.
