AIA Intl Nigeria - Changes in Architecture in Nigeria and Opportunities for New Beginnings

AIA Intl Nigeria - Changes in Architecture in Nigeria and Opportunities for New Beginnings

Event Description

Everywhere in the world, Culture, Politics, Economics, Society, Art and Architecture have always been interwoven. Just as in 1918 with the ‘Spanish’ Flu, we see a pandemic changing society in so many ways.

The earliest recorded overseas incursions of foreigners into any part of what is now known as Nigeria was in the 15th Century by the Portuguese, followed subsequently by the British. These influences brought eras of classical (Gothic), colonial, modern and post-modern Architecture.

We now find ourselves in a place where we must step back and think about how we have traditionally lived as Africans and redefine our work based on this, especially as Sustainability is now more critical than ever. This course attempts to take us on the journey from our beginnings to where we are, and position us so we can look into the future.
