Description

Tackling embodied carbon by modifying our “material diet” is now recognized as a key component of most anti-climate change policies – and is potentially one of the most important considerations in the next phase of de-carbonization.

Bamboo products have the lowest embodied carbon among commonly used building materials. Furthermore, this fast-growing grass has robust physical properties and is available at a competitive cost. No discussion on carbon neutral buildings should fail to include engineered bamboo.

In this webinar, we will discuss how engineered bamboo can contribute to carbon reduction and propose a way forward to promote its wider application in Hong Kong.

About the Speakers

Alex Chui

Alex Chui has more than 30 years’ experience in the real estate and building industry and is currently the Managing Director of BIL (Bamboo International (Group) Co., Ltd.).

After a highly successful career in senior management positions at major real estate and investment organizations, including Sun Hung Kai Properties, Portman Holdings, Prologis and Tishman Speyer, Alex decided to dedicate the “next phase” of his life to environmental sustainability. He now promotes the use of bamboo in our daily life, not just because of its sustainability, but also because the burgeoning bamboo industry in China and elsewhere in Southeast Asia provides gainful employment to thousands of otherwise idle workers.

Bamboo promotion is therefore a win-win-win endeavour, environmentally, socially, and commercially.
