Founder & Principal, Li-Ren Hsiao Architect & Associates
Li-Ren Hsiao comes from a large family in Jiadong Hsiao House, a historic site in South Taiwan, and was deeply influenced by traditional architecture and historical landscapes from a young age. During his time in the United States, he pursued a Master of Architecture at the University of Wisconsin. He later interned at E. L. Wright’s Taliesin East, gaining a profound understanding of Chicago’s modernist architectural context and of architecture as a reflection of the natural landscape. Alongside his architectural training, he has maintained a strong connection to music and art—having earned third place in a Taiwan Music Competition (violin solo)—and believes in integrating these disciplines into spatial design, harmonizing emotional and rational dimensions.
In 2003, he founded Li-Ren Hsiao Architect & Associates, following earlier professional experience at Artech. His practice presents a diverse and rich portfolio, encompassing residential and commercial buildings that respond to economic demands, educational and long-term care facilities addressing social development trends, and public buildings contributing to urban growth. He is recognized as one of the few Taiwanese architects who bridges both public and private sectors. In parallel with practice, he has contributed to architectural education, teaching as an Adjunct Lecturer at Tamkang University and Chung Yuan University, and later serving as Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. He has also participated in the Taipei City Government Planning Advisory Group, reflecting his engagement with public policy and urban planning.
In recent years, his architectural team has gained significant recognition and influence, receiving extensive media coverage both domestically and internationally, as well as numerous awards. Earlier in his career, he was named Taipei County Outstanding Youth Role Model (2000), a distinction that reflects his long-standing commitment to professional excellence and social contribution.
