Event Description

The time has come for the tall building’s profession to progress performance base design beyond net zero energy and towards creating regenerative buildings that contribute to the resources of its community.  This presentation examines the tall building’s primary nutrients (electricity and water) and will explore design considerations for making them fully self-sufficient.  Urban centres cannot continue to sustain, nor should tall buildings continue to be built with a present-day mindset of relying solely on outside resources for functionality.  To progress this forward, several factors need to be identified, re-examined, and renegotiated focusing on fundamental changes to how tall buildings are designed.

The questions and challenges with tall buildings reduction and regeneration of critical nutrients are not difficult to answer or understand when each component is analysed individually.  In fact, current technology exists for almost each analysis and solution.  Very much like an artistic mosaic, it starts with a single tile placement, by layering in new tiles, the mosaic takes on a masterful composition.
