Event Description

This is a continuation of the popular Women in Architecture series started last year. This presentation features preeminent architects each day from around the globe. They will share their journeys in the architectural profession and will showcase two or three key projects. There will be a panel discussion at the end of each session. The series is a partnership of the RIBA Sri Lanka and the AIA International Region.

Natalie Mossin is Head of Institute at the Royal Danish Academy - Institute of Architecture and Technology. She is a specialist of sustainable development in the built environment and innovation in construction. Natalie Mossin is serving on the Council of the International Union of Architects (UIA) and as a co-chair of the UIA Commission on Sustainable Development. Natalie is President of Congress for the World Congress of Architects 2023 and a past President of the Danish Association of Architects (2008-2018). She has served in numerous honorary offices and as an architectural editor, curator and juror. She has been a Fullbright Scholar at Columbia University, New York, and a curator of the Danish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Architect Datuk Pei Ing Tan started her own practice, PI Architect, in 1989. Her firm has undertaken a wide range of projects including shopping malls, hotels, commercial and residential developments etc.

Pei Ing is very active in her professional involvement as follows:

  • Past President of the Malaysian Institute of Architects

  • Member of the Board of Architects Malaysia

  • Past President and Advisor of ARCASIA

  • UIA Region IV council member (2017-2021)

  • Member of UIA PPC and Chair of sub-committee on Gender Equity in Architecture

  • Member of Melbourne University Asia Advisory Board.

Pei Ing has received a number of prestigious awards, including:

  • ‘The MCEIA ‘Construction Leading Lady award 2015’

  • ‘Distinguished Australian Alumni Award 2016’

  • Board of Architects Malaysia President’s Award 2017

  • Malaysian Institute of Architects Gold Medal for Service 2019.

Nela de Zoysa, the Chair of “Women in Architecture & Design”, is a practicing architect from Sri Lanka. She is an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, a Fellow of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, the Royal Institute of British Architects & the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.

She has the distinction of being the first Sri Lankan to win the ARCASIA Gold Medal in 2000 and also the First Woman in Sri Lanka to win the South Asian Architects Award in the same year. She won the Geoffrey Bawa Commendation Award for Excellence in Architecture in 2008. She received the Gold Award for Best International Woman Leadership from IFC and Women in Management in 2016 & the Zonta Woman of Achievement Award in the Category of Architecture in 1993.

Nationally, she has won 18 Awards from the SLIA under the categories of Excellence in Architecture, Merit, Honorable Mention and Color.

She is the first Sri Lankan to be elected to the RIBA Council, during which she initiated the RIBA Members Sri Lanka, of which she is the Chair since 2015 to date.

With 23 years of experience at ARCASIA, she served on its Council for 4 years.

She is the first Sri Lankan to be elected to the Strategic Council of the AIA and is the AIA Country Representative for Sri Lanka.

She has served in the SLIA Council for 6 year, currently as the Chair of the Board of Architectural Education, and previously as the assistant secretary.

Elizabeth Chu Richter, FAIA, is CEO of Richter Architects based in Corpus Christi, Texas.  A recognized leader in the profession, the firm received the prestigious Architecture Firm Award from the Texas Society of Architects in 2011.  Elizabeth believes in the power of architecture to impact lives and elevate the human spirit. She has twice chaired the AIA Gold Medal/Firm Award advisory jury, and has juried numerous national and regional design awards.  For decades, Elizabeth has championed raising public appreciation of architecture through award-winning designs, writing, and speaking.  She conceived and co-produced The Shape of Texas, a statewide radio series on architecture broadcasted on NPR-affiliate stations throughout Texas.  The series ran for 11 years, airing over 500 episodes and reached millions.  A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, Elizabeth was elected to serve as the national AIA President in 2015.  As the 91st President, Elizabeth holds the distinction of being the fourth woman to served as national president in the AIA's then 158 year history with over 88,000 members.  As a civic leader, Elizabeth served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and on the Governing Board of Christus Spohn Health System.
