AIA Hong Kong - Foundations for Sustainable Design Excellence

Event Description

Join us for an interactive deep dive into the fundamentals of sustainable design excellence. 

The session will focus on the verification metrics used for meaningful, holistic architectural design. Speakers will unveil how the Institute and AIA Hong Kong recognize excellence and will familiarize participants with the recent 10-point framework for Design Awards.

Alignment with Carbon champion, high performance metrics of the AIA International- Dow Sustainable Future Award (SFA) and the UN Sustainable and Resilient Development Goals (SDG/ RDG) will be shared. Honor Awarded architectural case studies-  that have received top AIA International and AIA Hong Kong recognitions will help illustrate fully integrated, Sustainable design excellence foundations.

Speaker Bios

Dr. Christine Bruckner is an architect actively implementing best practice, sustainability, and wellness in design. As a Director at M Moser Associates, she brings her experience with urban integration, revitalisation, and design excellence to guide the development of our built environment at all scales. Her focus is working with client and community stakeholders to encourage deep dive investigation, coordination and holistic life-cycle considerations. Christine leads M Moser’s global integrative sustainable and wellness design solution initiatives and is passionate that architectural solutions be:

  • Relentless in the design of spaces that heal, inspire, and empower.

  • Inclusive in the engagement of all stakeholders to create life-affirming, creativity-provoking, healthy places for people.

  • Responsible to create equitable, vibrant, safe communities that touch lightly on our shared planet.

Scott Brooks is a distinguished development strategist who bridges creative industries and real estate finance. As Director of Imagennix and co-Founder of TransAct Asia, a specialist real estate advisory practice, Scott combines creative vision with business strategy to support the AEC industry's pursuit of financially viable and sustainable development.

His career spans a wide geographic and project scope, with 460 completed engagements in 142 markets and 32 countries across Asia and the Middle East. His work is exemplified by diverse projects such as the city center redevelopment of Aqaba, Jordan and concept development supporting the successful tender of the two hotels at Ocean Park Hong Kong.

Scott is deeply committed to sustainability and design excellence. As an active AIA Hong Kong member, he led the development of the chapter's 2021-2025 Strategic Plan and as co-Chair of Honors & Awards is integrating the AIA's 10-point Framework for Design Excellence into the chapter's Honors & Awards Program.

Moderator: Yimei Chan has over twenty years of professional experience internationally including United States, Canada, Europe and China. She is the Founder and Design Director of LOD architecture studio with offices in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai and Barcelona. The firm is founded as an architectural experimental laboratory and an open platform for developing new ideas and designs through innovations and collaborations across different disciplines. She has been with notable firms including Steven Holl Architects, Revery Architecture (Formerly Bing Thom Architects), Aedas and SOM.

Her works include masterplan projects in Hong Kong and China, office headquarters, hospitality, co-living and brand experience design. Her research focus on exploration of space, form and function and relationship between architecture and city planning. Her works bring along design thinking strategy and multi-discipline approach: to enhance user’s experience design, to explore a new spatial experience relationship and to develop future architecture space concept.

Yimei is a registered architect in New York State, a NCARB certificate holder, and a LEED Accredited Professional. She is the Founder and Vice Chairman of Small World Foundation, and currently serves as Immediate Past President of AIA Hong Kong. She has previously collaborated with various design organizations on a series of lectures and recently exhibited at the Venice Biennale Architecture Exhibition 2021 and Beyond Territories – Made, Make, Making 2022.
