Description
With the recent increase in inbound visitors, more foreign tourists are visiting regions of Japan beyond just the urban cities. As a result, there is growing interest in the ways of life found in places that were overlooked during the growth phase of modernization, as well as in the various ingenious solutions and wisdom embedded within those places.
The Asian Cultural Council Hong Kong – Hsin Chong Foundation, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and with the cooperation of the AIA Japan Chapter, has launched a fellowship program that sends young architects from Hong Kong to Japan for a two-month research stay; the first recipient is currently undertaking her residency.
How can the insights learn from Japan’s indigenous knowledge, gained through research on the theme of Japan’s cultural heritage, enrich cultural sensibilities and sharpen design perspective, and contribute to a socio-landscape? Through presentations by two speakers, including a Japanese architect of the same generation, and an exchange of views with commentators, this event aims to provide an opportunity to explore these possibilities from an international perspective.
Free to attend.
