Description
AIA Hong Kong, in collaboration with the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and Sherwin-Williams, invites architects, designers and industry professionals to explore how natural materials and innovative design approaches can contribute to a more resilient and sustainable built environment.
The online symposium on 18 September forms part of the wider Bangkok excursion, which brings together architectural practice visits, project tours, material-focused discussions and exchanges with local and international practitioners.
The symposium will feature two panels:
Panel I — From Forest to Facade: Transforming Natural Materials into Architectural Innovations
This session will explore how timber, bamboo and other bio-based materials are inspiring new approaches to architectural design. Speakers will discuss how natural products can be transformed into high-performance architectural solutions, combining material innovation with functionality, sustainability and a strong connection to place.
Panel II — Building for Tomorrow: Resilience Beyond Sustainability
Moving beyond conventional approaches to sustainability, this session will consider how architecture and design can respond to climate change, resource constraints and evolving societal needs. Architects, designers and industry specialists will discuss strategies for creating buildings and communities that are adaptable, durable and prepared for an uncertain future.
The symposium brings together practitioners from Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong and the United States, offering perspectives from architecture, furniture and product design, material innovation and sustainability.
