These events not only showcase regional architecture but also promote cross-border learning, giving international members opportunities to explore diverse design practices and cultural heritage.
Grumpy Hour, at LAAB Architects
In addition to excursions, the AIA Hong Kong also organizes a wide range of community-focused events to promote networking and inclusivity. The monthly Grumpy Hour gatherings have become a favourite among members, fostering informal connections. These gatherings are a resounding success, thanks to the engaging atmosphere.

Practice is Vision series
The quarterly YAG Mentorship Program offers emerging professionals valuable career guidance from a diverse pool of mentors. Events like the International Women’s Day Dialogue and the Practice is Vision series featuring Donald Choi have sparked rich discussions on innovation, leadership, and collaboration, strengthening professional ties within the architectural community. The launch of the Practice Is Vision series had an intimate dinner format, with a select group of 15 members—including past presidents and firm leaders— which created an excellent environment for exchanging ideas. It was a wonderful opportunity to hear firsthand from an accomplished leader like Donald and align with the group’s shared vision for the profession and its future. This event reinforces the importance of connecting industry leaders to discuss innovation, collaboration, and the evolving role of design in society. We look forward to the next one!
