AIA Shanghai - Using Modern Wooden Structures to Shape Traditional Chinese Architectural Spaces

Event Description

Traditional Chinese architecture has always been built with wooden structures, which is a very green and low-carbon construction method. In rapidly developing China, it is difficult to find craftsmen who can make wooden structures, resulting in fewer and fewer traditional spaces. On a Xujiang island, Suzhou, we attempted to build a cultural experience hall about Chinese ancient post stations using modern wooden structures. This experience hall will be designed according to the layout of ancient post stations, but the construction method is all modern. This not only continues the flavor of traditional Chinese architecture, but also allows for a good combination of modern wooden structures and traditional spaces. We hope that this approach can be more applied to other projects, allowing traditional Chinese architectural spaces to be continued and revitalized with the support of modern wooden structures.
