The AIA International Practice Committee (IPCAG) is a standing committee charged by the AIA Board of Directors to monitor global practice and related governmental policies that impact international practice.  As advisors to the AIA Board, the IPCAG serves as the eyes and ears for the AIA Board. The committee endeavors to promote design excellence in international practice and serve as a resource for AIA members by compiling and disseminating information regarding international markets and best practices.  The information strives to be relevant to those already practicing abroad, and to members who may wish to expand their practice overseas or work with foreign clients investing in the United States.

The remit of the IPCAG is to:

  • Develop and update the Global Practice Primer which is available on the AIA website.

  • Develop and present continuing education workshops and seminars for AIA conferences.

  • Facilitate communication with collateral organizations interested in global markets, global facilities development, and international investments.

  • Conduct quarterly conference calls with other international groups such as overseas components, UIA, FPPA, and AIA IR.

  • Foster and build relationships with architects abroad and foreign counterpart associations to promote exchange, design excellence, equity, and climate action.

The IPCAG is currently working on a 3-Year Plan that will focus efforts on five areas:  global policy and advocacy, communications, design excellence, markets and practice, and international collaboration.

The committee consists of seven members, liaisons to Strategic Council and UIA, and staff liaisons. AIA will issue a call of interest shortly for anyone interested in serving on this committee or any other AIA committees.
