President’s Letter

October 2020

The AIA IR is in full-flow getting ready for the Virtual Conference on Nov 17-21. It is fantastic to see the energy and passion that is being put into it by so many people!  The range of speakers and topics is phenomenal.  Speakers include B.V. Doshi, Moshe Safdie, Jeanne Gang, Jan Gehl, Sandra Barclay, Annabelle Seldorf, and many others. Please register today and be part of it!

The AIA IR hosted a series of technical facade lectures in August in Guangzhou, China at the WinExpo trade show, that had a physical attendance of 60,000 people.  In October the IR co-hosted the online CAM-SAM Séptimo Congresso in Mexico that featured Pritzker Prize-winners RCR Architects.  The IR is partnering with RIBA Sri Lanka to produce the Women in Architecture and Design series as part of the IR’s upcoming Virtual Conference.  Planning is also underway for IR hosted lectures at the Surfaces trade show, and World of Concrete Asia trade shows in Shanghai in December.

The IR’s now has representatives in 18 Countries or Regions.  Please see the website for the latest reports of what is happening in these areas.

We have started an Emerging Professionals (EP) group at the IR to coordinate efforts across the chapters.  Look out for several EP sessions at the Virtual Conference!  If you are interested in linking with the EPs, please contact emergingprofessionals@aiainternational.org

Finally, International Associates (licensed architects outside of the US) are now required to complete the same number of Continuing Education credits as US licensed architects.  If you haven’t yet started accruing these credits don’t worry – you can attend the Virtual Conference, or view many on-demand events on the IR website, for you to earn your annual requirement of 18 units!

I wish you health and prosperity in the challenging times ahead.

Working together we are stronger!
