President’s Letter

April 2022

Hello, Everyone!

Welcome to AIA International’s first Newsletter of 2022.  We hope you enjoy it.  Like past newsletters, we review recent topics, let you know what’s been happening around the world, and advise upcoming events.

The first quarter contained a lot of activities.  Folks in newly elected and appointed positions with the AIA Intl Board as well as with the seven International Chapters began assuming their responsibilities, including committee work.

AIA’s organizations overseas have been undergoing a transformation from AIA International Region to AIA International and AIA International Chapters into state-like status. The benefits and challenges of these changes are now being discussed and addressed.

One thing is clear:  despite two years of the devastation caused by COVID-19, happenstance, technology, and the hard work of AIA International members has allowed Unassigned Members and International Chapter Members who have not been near chapter centers or live event locations to participate in ways inconceivable previously. Two of our current 4 Ex-Com members are from non-Chapter countries, Singapore and Costa Rica. In short, our approximately 3,000 members spread out across the globe now have incredible access to one another, to events, talks, learning sessions, CES credits, and most importantly, the ability to participate in meaningful ways.

We have already held our first quarterly Country Rep networking event at which AIA National Immediate Past President, Peter Exley, gave us an introductory talk. Three more events are already planned for 2022.

In the months ahead, we all look forward to our Virtual Spring Conference, A’22 in Chicago, Design Awards, and our International Conference in London.

As you peruse this first Newsletter, I hope you become motivated to get further involved – we need you and welcome you to do more as an AIA International member.

With warm regards,

Scott Gold, AIA, SAME
President
