AIA Japan Update - December 2025

AIA Japan closed out the year with a strong season of programming, highlighted by lectures from two of Japan’s most influential architects, Kazuyo Sejima and Kengo Kuma.

In October, AIA Japan supported the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI) during their Architecture in Perspective International Conference in Tokyo (1–3 October 2025). As part of the  co,  AIA Japan members received complimentary registration to attend the Kazuyo Sejima Keynote Lecture at theItalian Cultural Institute. Kazuyo Sejima, Pritzker Prize laureate and 2025 RIBA Royal Gold Medal winner, shared insights from her internationally acclaimed architectural career.

AIA Japan was also honored to collaborate with Kengo Kuma & Associates to host a special lecture, “Back to Nature”, presented by Kengo Kuma at the historic Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan, a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece, and a fitting setting for this dialogue between architecture and nature. The talk delved into Kuma’s philosophy of reconnecting design with the natural world.

Under the leadership of President Balasz Bognar, the chapter will conclude its 2025 programming with the AIA Japan Year-End Party + Design Awards Celebration on 13 December 2025 at Hotel Indigo Shibuya. Being above the city of Tokyo with panoramic views of Shibuya, we will celebrate design excellence, community, and our ongoing collaboration, accompanied by a seasonal dinner buffet or canapé service with free-flow wine, beer, and soft drinks.

We always welcome AIA members from overseas to join our events!
