Where: Online

Description

We are excited to welcome a wonderful speaker, David Bradley, AIA PCC for our session, titled: Get out of your own way: Reframing Your Leadership Narrative.

We all have dreams of what we can create in our professional lives, and we all run into roadblocks on that path.  More often than not, those obstacles are of our own making - deeply rooted in the stories we tell about ourselves, others, and the world around us.  In this session we'll take a look at using storytelling to not only distinguish where we hold ourselves back, but explore how we can leverage that craft to create greater possibility and reframe who we get to be as heroes of our own narratives.

Speaker

Takako Tajima, AIA, NCARB, ASLA, Principal of Tajima Open Design Office and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California.

Description

AIA Japan and AIA Honolulu are excited to co-host this online talk!

Throughout history, human settlements relied on rivers as sources of water and food, means of circulation and transportation, and places of recreation. The history of urbanization, however, is also the history of degraded riparian systems. This lecture will examine the plight of rivers in the 20th and 21st centuries and the prospects for urbanism when we reorient our cities to the rivers from which they emerged.

Speaker Bio

Takako Tajima is principal of Tajima Open Design Office and adjunct assistant professor at the University of Southern California. Like her background, Takako’s professional experience ranges in type, scale, and scope. Currently, she is contributing to a set of new objective design standards for the City of Palm Desert and designing the open space components of several housing projects being developed as part of California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Homekey initiative. At USC, Takako leads graduate level design studios and teaches in the Asian Architecture and Landscape Urbanism study abroad program for undergraduate architecture students.

Description

AIA Hong Kong is thrilled to invite you to the next event in our Young Architects Group (YAG) Emerging Voices series: Two Cities – Two Cultures at our sponsor Steelcase’s showroom in Central for an exciting evening of thought-provoking presentations and discussions.

Two Cities – Two Cultures

Hong Kong and Seoul are unique environments, each a very high density metropolis comprising a mix of cultures and fascinating histories. This event will consider how architects leverage these attributes in their work and how the cultural and historical context of each city has inspired innovation and new ways of collaboration.

In our Emerging Voices Series, we explore how young design firms rethink and reinterpret the profession of architecture beyond day-to-day concerns, both in the area of practice and geographic boundaries.

Our panel will include four emerging practices, two based in Hong Kong and two in Seoul:

Atelier Chang     Soohyun Chang, SIA, Principal

Studio 10             Shi Zhou, AIA, Founder

SS2 Architects  Jaebong Jeon, AIA, Principal
                              Keunyoung Lim, BSA, Principal

COLLECTIVE     Chi Yan Chan, Assoc. AIA, Director
Betty Ng, Assoc. AIA, RIBA, SBA, Founder
Juan Minguez, ARB (UK), RIBA, COAM, Director
Katja Lam, ARB (HK), RIBA, Director

During the event, our speakers will share case studies, past experiences and future aspirations for design innovation through collaboration. The discussion will be moderated by Eric Ho, AIA, co-founder of Architecture Commons and Neighbourhood Innovation Lab and Keojin Jin, AIA, Assistant Professor of Architectural Design at Pusan National University.
