AIA Taipei Update - October 2026

AIA Taipei members in 2025 Annual General Meeting

What began as a modest gathering of a few dedicated architects with a shared vision for international design exchange has rapidly evolved into a dynamic and influential chapter within the global AIA community. The trajectory of AIA Taipei stands as a testament to the hard work, passion, and collaborative spirit of our leadership and members.

Our foundational architecture and initial development were established under our early leadership, including our inaugural President, Jenny Ling (Professor at Tamkang University and Alumni Board Member of Columbia University GSAPP), and our second President, Joumin Lin (former Commissioner of the Department of Urban Development for the Taipei City Government).

Today, as a newly recognized official AIA Chapter, we are proudly led by President Liren Hsiao, founder of LRH Architects & Associates, together with Vice President Yuwen Chiu, Secretary General William Chandra, and our Country Representative, Tzuyi Chuang, and upcoming leadership by Grace Cheung.

The transition from a regional Section to a full-fledged AIA Chapter represents a defining landmark for the American architect community and architectural practice in Taiwan. This transformation was driven by the strong support and passionate commitment of nearly 40 American architects locally in Taiwan, whose backing has helped our activities and thought leadership garner significant regional attention, resulting in multiple feature publications in Taiwan Architect Magazine.

None of these accomplishments would have been possible without the behind-the-scenes work of our tireless committee members, as well as the generous support of our partner institutions, supporting members, and the nearly 40 local American architects who support our vision. Their collective dedication has enabled us to host a rich array of engaging programming and maintain active dialogues with municipal bodies, academic institutions, and professional associations across Taiwan.

AIA Taipei x Columbia University Lecture

At the heart of AIA Taipei is our belief that architecture thrives through active engagement, education, and community outreach. Over the past few years, we have tirelessly organized a broad spectrum of dynamic events, including:

  • City Walks & On-Site Tours: Guided urban explorations and architectural walk-throughs highlighting Taipei’s rich history, contemporary landmarks, and sustainable urban developments.

  • On-Site & Online Lectures: Expert-led presentations bridging local architectural developments with global design trends, accessible to both local attendees and virtual participants worldwide.

  • Panel Discussions & Fireside Chats: Moderated panels featuring leading architects, academics, and urban planners discussing pressing industry topics, from urban regeneration to emerging technologies in design.

Building on this momentum, we are thrilled to announce our next major milestone: The First AIA Taipei Chapter Design Awards!

This program aims to highlight creative design solutions, foster interdisciplinary innovation, and showcase extraordinary architectural talent from both local and international participants. We invite the entire international AIA community, especially our local American architect partners in Taiwan, to follow along, share the call for submissions, and offer your support as we celebrate the power of architectural ideas.
